Friday 1st December

Last week the children chose what topic they wanted to learn about for the next 2 weeks… they picked space!

We have been counting space rocks in maths and finding 1 less, drawing planets using chalk, creating spacescapes on tinfoil using paint and our focus activity this week was baking rock cakes. The role play area became a space station where children were writing their own space cards and we even had a few children pretend to be aliens.

Today we were supposed to have the planetarium in school but unfortunately due to snow in Sheffield they were unable to come to us, however, this has been rescheduled for Wednesday 6th December.

In maths this week we have been looking at 1 less/fewer ready to move onto to subtraction next week.

This week our Learning Super Hero went to Darcey for being resourceful and independent in maths and writing during choosing time. We also had 3 children on the extraordinary zone and 9 children receive their superhero challenges.

Our attendance this week was 93.1%

Our Nativity will take place at 2pm and 5pm on Tuesday 12th December, tickets are still on sale, at the moment you are only allocated 2 tickets, if there are any spares we will let you know.

We also have our school fair coming up next week – Friday 8th December. Tickets are no longer available so we hope you got yours in time.

Friday 15th December – Christmas Dinner, this is also our Parent afternoon where we are welcoming you to join us for an afternoon of crafts. 2-3pm.

Wednesday 20th – finish school for Christmas Holidays.

Reading Tuesday – Every Tuesday morning you are invited to come into school and share a story with your child. This will be until 9.10am when we will then start our day. During this time we will also have a Book Swap Shop where you can swap one of your well-read books for another.

We are also looking for Secret Readers – this will again take place every Tuesday at 2.30, we are hoping to get a mystery guest (a parent) to read our end of the day story. If you are interested in doing this please speak to us so we can add you to our list.

Home Learning

Each week on a Friday we send home a blue Home Learning Journal. This will contain an activity to complete at home over the weekend or in the week (please try to use a page a week), but the books must be back in school by Thursday so we can get them ready again. Please encourage where possible your child to show their independence. We share the books with the class and the children will receive a Dojo for their learning.

This week…Can you take a look at the night sky one evening? What can you see? What does the moon look like? If you move away from other houses you might see more. Next week we will be learning these tricky words: he, we, said, in of

Have a lovely weekend, see you on Monday,

Miss Arrowmith and Miss Leonard
