This week the children have really enjoyed ‘getting their teeth’ into our new under the sea topic, especially learning all about sharks. Over the last few weeks they have done some fantastic writing. In ‘Spark you Speech’ we have watched a video of a shark getting stuck in a cage and the children had to predict what they thought would happen next. They’ve written about how Marlin (Nemo’s dad) might have been feeling when Nemo was taken away and wrote thinking bubbles for images.
In maths this week we have been looking at numbers above 20 and looking into how many 10’s and 1’s they have. We’ve used numicon and deans to help build the numbers and played bingo.
This week the children had their transition into year 1 where they met their new teacher Mr Kennedy. On their return they were very excited and have been asking all week if they’re going to see him again. We will have our final transition next week.
Next week we will be recapping money and writing about our time in Reception.
We have a very busy last week so make sure you read below for the key dates and information.
Our Remarkable Rabbit this week went to Lusyia for making links in her learning and being resilient in her writing.
Can you write or draw a picture of your fondest memory from your year in Reception?
As we are fast approaching the transition into year 1 we are encouraging the children to be more independent in their writing. You can support this at home by taking any opportunities that may arise where they show interest in something or have done an activity (for example; Today I went to the park with my mum and sister and had a picnic) Remind them to hold the sentence in their head first, use their finger spaces and sound out each word using Fred fingers.
Bring the sentences into school and we will celebrate them with the class in the morning and award Dojo’s. We are aiming for independent sentences, so don’t worry too much about spellings. We are celebrating that they have written a sentence all on their own.
Home reading books will be changed on Tuesday next week, this will be the last time they will be changed as we will begin to collect them back in ready for September.
